Is a Dental Implant procedure painful?

If a dental implant is being considered, it’s completely normal to be concerned about pain. The idea of surgery can sound intimidating, but the good news is that most patients are surprised by how smooth and manageable the process actually is.
What to Expect During the Procedure
The implant procedure itself is performed under local anaesthetic, which numbs the area completely. This means you won’t feel any pain while the implant is being placed. For patients who feel anxious or nervous, we also offer sedation options to help you relax and feel at ease throughout the appointment.
What About After the Surgery?
Once the anaesthetic wears off, it’s normal to experience some mild swelling, tenderness, or discomfort in the days following the procedure. This is part of the healing process and is usually well managed with over-the-counter pain relief and following the care instructions we provide. Most patients find that the discomfort is less than expected and typically subsides within a few days.
How Long Is the Recovery?
Everyone heals at a different pace, but the initial recovery is usually quick. You may be able to return to work or your normal activities within a day or two, depending on how complex the procedure was. The implant itself continues to heal and integrate with your bone over the next few months, but this part of the process is not painful.
