When it comes to dental implants, one of the most common questions we hear is whether someone’s age might disqualify them from treatment. The truth is, age alone is rarely the issue. What matters more is your overall health and whether your mouth and jaw are ready to support an implant.
Can You Be Too Young for an Implant?
Dental implants are generally not recommended for children or teens because their jaws are still developing. Placing an implant too early can affect how the bone grows and lead to complications later on. For most young people, it’s best to wait until their facial growth is complete. Usually around 18 for females and 21 for males before considering an implant.
Can You Be Too Old?
Not at all. There’s no upper age limit for dental implants. In fact, many of our patients are in their 60s, 70s, or even 80s. As long as you’re in good general health, have enough bone to support an implant, and are able to heal normally after surgery, you’re likely a good candidate. Dental implants can significantly improve quality of life at any age, especially for those who struggle with loose dentures or difficulty chewing.
More About What Matters Most
Factors like bone density, oral hygiene, and any ongoing medical conditions are far more important than how many candles are on your birthday cake. During your consultation, we’ll look at your individual circumstances and discuss whether dental implants are right for you.
